Zaandam, The Netherlands
As the company’s largest activated carbon reactivation facility in Europe, we are dedicated to operating our plant according to the highest safety, health and environmental standards.
Our manufacturing facility in Zaandam has been in operation for over 100 years and produces granular activated carbon for air purification, water purification, food and beverages, chemical purification and catalysts, and other applications. In addition, our facility is the company’s largest reactivation plant in Europe for extruded activated carbon.
Established in 1916
In 1916, we began the production of activated carbon with two kilns, making our facility the first activated carbon manufacturing plant of that scale in the world.
Our plant was part of the industrial revolution development process in this part of the Netherlands in the early 1900s.
1950 - 1980S
In the decades after World War II, the plant continued to expand with the production of fresh extruded activated carbon, reactivation of spent carbon, washing and impregnation.
In the early 1990s, we installed extra kiln capacity for both carbon activation and reactivation, and we built a new warehouse and blending line.
Our site is a modern, sophisticated and well-equipped activated carbon plant in a historical neighborhood with a very proud and enthusiastic team of around 90 employees.
Throughout the years we have supported our local community by dedicating our time and resources to various charitable organizations, including:
- Make a Wish Foundation to help bring joy to terminally ill children with a weekend trip to Disneyland in Paris, France
- Dutch First Aid (EHBO) Association to provide basic first aid training in English to people and families who do not speak the Dutch language
- Blind Guide Dog Association to train dogs to help those with visual impairments complete daily household tasks safely
Life at Cabot
Safety is always our number one priority. In 2018, we were proud to celebrate one year without experiencing any recordable injuries.
Every year, our colleagues from Amersfoort, Botlek and Klazienaveen join us in the Dam tot Damloop Business Run, one of the largest sporting events in the Netherlands. The 10 mile run starts at Amsterdam’s Dam Square and finishes in the city center of Zaandam.
